      • Pause Fasting
      Maryam D.

Compared with other religions, Islam is more moderate tolerating menstruated women. Islam had not considered the menstruated women as unclean like Jews; or see it indifferently like Christianity. Being moderate, Islam calls the period of menstruation as a process of pain and suffering:
«...یسئلونك عن المحیض قل هو اذی...»
''And they ask you about menstruation. Say: It is a discomfort;''
Based on this view, some rules are legislated to reduce the suffering of this period for women that help her move from this phase which is naturally suitable for her body.

God is kinder than what we can imagine
It is worth noticing that in Islam, a menstruated woman has not been kept away from the evolution and reaching God by being away from praying and fasting; she is  even suggested to pray some dhikr in the praying time. In other words the removal of obligation for Salaat and fasting is just an opportunity for the women who are in pain to rest for a while.
In many narrations it is said that the person who is sick, is rewarded for those good deeds he might have done if he was OK. According to Quran, mensuration is a kind of ''discomfort'' that prevents women from doing obligatory praying, therefore, a Muslim women who has used to do her praying, and now suffers from menstruation, will be rewarded as she is doing her praying and obligatory deeds; moreover she is rewarded because of her pain and discomfort and menstruation do away her sins.
Considering all of this kindness toward women, one can understand that the only aim is to satisfy God, by doing and sometimes by not doings duties. God loves to see us obeying what he has asked for, like not doing what is obligatory when he prohibits doing it.

      Let's change our believes
One of the concerns of Muslim women is fasting in Ramadan while menstruation; most of women consider the prohibition of fasting in this period as a barrier that refrains them from the prosperity of this month; this attitude ends in despair and that's why these women don't feel the spiritual pleasures of this month totally.
There are several reactions to this situation; some suffers the pain of these negative thoughts; and some plan to fight with this physiological process and employ tablets to delay their menstruation. Both of these reactions are not approved; as they end in damages to soul and body of women. We suggest these groups of women, change their thoughts and believes.

Consider that not only the pain of menstruation is not a barrier to prosperity of Ramadan, but it also could mean a surrounding to God's will and a sign of modesty before him. developing this attitudes that all of the undone obligatory deeds in this period, like fasting, can be compensated later is also helpful to cheer these women up; thinking that mensuration is not  a barrier for their perfection and reaching God's prosperity but is an opportunity provided to them for their own ease; and the doors are always open to them.

Caring of yourself is a way to Worship God
The menstruation period plays an important role in women health, according to some scientist even this periods are reasons for longer life of women compared with men. Moreover, this period paves the way for fertility of women, which flourishes the women spiritual progress. That's why any interference ends in damages to their mental and physical heath. Employing tablets to delay this period in Ramadan is contradictory with God's will and the philosophy of fasting which is developing health.
It is worth mentioning that using the combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP) both hurts body because of their side effects, and the change in the normal progress of body. In Ramadan, women over 35 are in danger of coagulation due to loss of water, especially those who don't drink enough after iftar. So, those suffering from diabetes, high pressure, cancers, migraine etc. should seriously avoid taking these tablets. Nausea, vertigo, headache or abnormal bleeding from the vagina that are side effects of these medicine also will prevent the pleasure of worshiping God and turn fasting into hell!
Another side effect of this medicine is their effects on the behavior and mood of the person. Some women become so sensitive after taking them, definitely the joy and happiness in the home of these women will be gone. This doesn't exactly seem the path of obedience when her mood ends in absence of happiness at home. It is really important that women bring happiness and mercy for other members of the family and following the path of obedience of God, rather than just being fast or saying prayers.
